How can I get my natural curly hair to revert back after pressing has caused some pieces to stay str

Hi everyone! I'm 17 years old and I have natural ethnic hair, and I've never had a relaxer. My hair type is more like mixed people. I've been getting my hair pressed with a hot comb or pressing comb since the eighth grade, and usually my hair just reverts back with no straight pieces. For the last 8 months I've been going to another lady to press my hair and she gets my hair BONE straight, but after I shampoo it I have straight pieces that won't revert back. How can I correct this? I'm thinking about letting my hair stay natural during the summer and not getting it pressed and flat ironing here and there when I need a straight style. Would this help revert the straight pieces? My hair hair used to be THICK with lots of curls. Now it's thinner and with loose curls and straight pieces. Can someone please tell me how to correct this? Please give any advice. I know the heat is breaking the protein bonds but what can I do to correct the damage?

Thankies to all who answer!

My hair is the same way and it actually did the complete opposite of yours. My hair was white girl straight up until I was 11, then it did a complete 180 on me, now I have the thickest, curliest hair. I am also mixed. When I was in cosmetology school, they taught me it was because of the hormonal changes that young ladies go thru during your teen years. That could be to blame for your hair not returning to what you are used to it being. But I also learned that to restore the protein in your hair, you gotta use a couple cholesterol treatments. Its really simple and it helps your hair get back healthy. They only cost like $4 at the beauty supply. You part your hair into 4 sections and apply very heavy. Let it sit for about 20 minutes, then wash your hair, and dont ever forget to condition. When you apply the conditioner, put on a plastic cap that way the moisture actually stays in your hair instead of evaporating. I know this sounds like alot, but it doesnt even take an hour from start to finish!

Hmmm.... you may just have to wait until it grows out. Use a curling iron to curl your straight pieces in the meantime. Maybe it will remind your hair what it's supposed to do!

you may want to use a curl activator to get your hair back in the curl phase again. that's about all i can think of!

I'd say get it chemically straightened instead of pressing it from now on, if you have to, because it sounds like you're drying it out majorly.

You can also keep ironing it.. but try to do it once a week or less often.

I'd say give it a break for a while. But to be honest it sounds like you have to change big time and you'll just have to wait for new hair to grow out before your hair could be 100% healthy again.

Also you can try intensive hair masks to help.

Use a damage control shampoo and conditioner. When that runs, out, use a curl enhansing shampoo and conditioner. Both sets should be from the Aveda brand. it will probably cost you about $100 dollars for all four bottles, but it WILL be worth it.

Natural Curly hair can both be a blessing and a curse~I have thick Natural curly hair, and I too straighten it, but with a hair dryer. The humidity is my worst enemy! Hot Oil treatments work wonders if done properly-on both types of hair. I let my hair dry natural in the summer, and shape the hair with a cool air hair dryer-it will put life back into your hair, bounce and shine. If you are having problems with a few stray straight hairs, let your hair dry natural for a few weeks-scruntch it while it's drying, and try to stay away from chemicals that contain alcohol. Frizz-Ease is a wonderful product, and it only takes a little ~trust me, it will spring back~just keep it natural for awhile...: )

It sounds like the lady you've been going to is making the hot comb or flat iron WAY too hot if your hair is getting bone straight. Those straight pieces are because of damage, which I think you already knew. But anyways, all you can do is try to deep condition A LOT and treat your hair really carefully. I wouldn't get it pressed as much. Maybe you could try getting a protective style like cornrows for a few weeks, which cuts down on manipulation. If the hair still doesn't revert back, you might have to cut it off. That should be your last resort though.
