My cat is about 5 years old and i noticed a piece of hair on his side that is hard allmost greasy feeling. lookes like it is matted but it is not, he is a short hair domestic. What can this be?

Check the area around the hair and see. If it's greasy it means that he has been liking it a lot. If that is the case than it might be a scab or an open wound.

if you cant comb it out, it might be some cat poo stuck to his coat. Try to cut it out or comb it out. It happends sometimes.

Dried food. Try to soak it with a damp paper towel and then comb out. Works for me!

He must have gottin into something...bad kitty!!!lol...My cat got into some of my hair products once, same deal..good luck.

Is there a lump? If there is, it could be an abscess. Wash it off with Dawn Detergent and look closer. Otherwise take him to the vet.
