Hair Wrapping. How is it done?

Like with string...i'm not really sure if thats what its called but I was thinking of wrapping pieces of my hair with purple string for warped tour next thursday. If anybody has any tips on how its done I'd really appreciate it.

MATERIALS:

3 of your best colors of DMC Embroidery Floss

3 beads

Scissors

3" square piece of cardboard

Dental floss or heavy thread

Ruler

A friend to help

Instructions follow for approximate length of floss strands needed.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Measure your hair length and add 96" for the length of floss needed to start wrapping.

2. Cut a slit in the cardboard square from one

side to the center. Have a friend grasp a small

lock of your hair, either at the hairline, along hair

part, or at the base of neck behind ear. Slip your

lock of hair through the slit in cardboard and

slide as close as possible to your head.

3. Hold all strands of floss together and fold in half to find the

center. Wrap center of floss around your hair and make a knot tightly around hair as close to cardboard as possible.

(If knot slides, pull it tighter before wrapping.)

4. Have a friend hold all of the strands of floss and your hair except the first wrapping strands (marked "A"), which your friend will begin to tightly wrap around your hair and other floss strands, starting at the knot. While your friend wraps your hair, you can help by keeping long strands of floss untangled. It may be easier to loosely ball-up the wrapping strands when in use. Continue wrapping the lock of hair for

approximately 1".

5. Using the "B" strands, tie 14 square knots (click here for square knot instructions) which equals approximately 1".

6. Repeat Step 5, using "C" strands.

7. Repeat Step 5, using "A" strands.

8. Repeat Step 5, 6, and 7 three times.

9. For beaded tails, thread a bead (See Step 9 Illustration) onto the ends of two strands of like color floss, then tie a knot below bead, varying the tail lengths from 1" - 2" and trim. For easy threading of beads: Use a 10" length of heavy thread or dental floss, fold in half and thread the cut ends through bead, leaving 2" loop on one side of bead. Place the four filler cords through the thread loop and pull loop and floss through bead hole.

10. To remove the Rapper hair accessory, carefully clip the slip knot and gently slide off your hair, with the help of your friend or a parent -- being careful not to cut your hair!!
